After a successful career as a real-estate investor and developer, Darren became disillusioned by the prospects of wealth accumulation. In 2002 he started an animal rescue organization while still working as a real estate developer. In 2012, he sold his real estate company — despite doing well financially, he found the work unfulfilling compared to rescuing animals and helping at charities. He then dedicated his life to helping others, going on to play an instrumental role in driving MrBeast's philanthropic work. He has stated in interviews that he doesn't have much of a private life because he works ardently for Beast Philanthropy, and even donates his MrBeast salary back to the organization.
